Serving the Children
of the World
About Kiwanis Clubs...
What is Kiwanis? Kiwanis is
a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one
community and one child at a time.
What does Kiwanis do? It
performs community service beyond the capabilities of the individual; assistance
to the aging, the needy, and especially to youth; improvement of our
communities; and encouragement of international
understanding.
The Objects of Kiwanis International:
To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the
material values of life.
To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human
relationships.
To promote the adoption and the application of higher social,
business, and professional standards.
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent,
aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form
enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better
communities.
To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public
opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness,
justice, patriotism, and good will.
About Kiwanis International...
Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan, January 21, 1915. The
name “Kiwanis” is from an Indian phrase, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "we
trade" or "we share our talents."
Today there are over 600,000 members in the Kiwanis family.
belonging to more than 13,000 clubs. Kiwanis clubs serve in 94 countries around
the world and achieve what individuals cannot do alone.
Kiwanis sponsors affiliate organizations in elementary schools,
called K Kids. Junior high schools have Builders Clubs. Key
Clubs are for high school students, and colleges have Circle K Clubs.
Aktion Clubs for developmentally disabled adults are being chartered
around the country.
